National Assembly Orders Increase of Steel Ministry’s 2025 Budget Allocation

The National Assembly has directed an upward review of the 2025 budget allocation for the Ministry of Steel Development.
This decision was made after the ministry’s budget presentation in Abuja.
This directive was issued by the Chairman of the Joint Committee on Steel Development, Senator Patrick Ndubueze. This followed a request by the Minister of Steel Development, Mr. Shuaibu Audu, for increased funding.
Mr. Audu explained that the ministry was allocated ₦24 billion in the 2025 budget. However, he stated that the ministry initially requested ₦315 billion to meet its operational needs.
The minister hammered on the importance of adequate funding to boost steel production. He noted that increased allocation would support infrastructure development and improve the ministry’s overall performance.
In response, Senator Ndubueze stressed the need to establish Scrap Collection Centres across the six geopolitical zones. This, he said, would help protect public infrastructure and enhance production.
The committee chairman also urged the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, to collaborate with the steel ministry. He explained the need for joint efforts to fulfill the ministry’s goals.
