NAPTIP Rejects Speed Darlington’s Postponement Request, Orders Appearance Over Rape Confession

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has issued a stern warning to controversial singer Speed Darlington after he tried to delay his summons, following a disturbing confession that he had sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl in a hotel.
Darlington made the shocking admission during a recent Instagram live session, prompting swift action from the agency.
In a statement signed by the Director of Information and Communications Technology, Hakeem Lawal, NAPTIP confirmed it had invited the singer for questioning on Friday, May 30, 2025, after sending a notice two days earlier.
However, Darlington responded by requesting a postponement, saying:
“Hello, I will not be able to come in today. This is very sudden and urgent for me. I already have commitments and responsibilities. I suggest you should reschedule to next month, June 26. I will be in Abuja that day.”
Rejecting his excuse, NAPTIP stressed that the issue is of “urgent national importance” and cannot be delayed for personal convenience. The agency noted that the singer was given sufficient time to prepare and appear for the interview.
To accommodate him while maintaining urgency, NAPTIP has now given Speed Darlington a new deadline: Monday, June 2, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., at their headquarters in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.
“The Agency will not be able to work with your schedule as stated. Your cooperation is very critical in this matter,” NAPTIP stated in a post on its official X page.
The agency’s response underscores its commitment to thoroughly investigating the serious allegations tied to child abuse and exploitation.
