The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has shut down a skincare facility in Agege, Lagos, for producing cosmetic products deemed dangerous to public health.

Officials who raided the premises over the weekend said the products were being manufactured in substandard conditions and sold to unsuspecting consumers as safe and “organic.”

The company, which has a large following on Instagram, reportedly produced a range of bleaching and whitening creams that were never registered with the agency. Items seized during the operation included scrubs, soaps, and other skin-lightening products marketed under fancy brand names but allegedly containing harmful substances.

In a statement posted on its X handle on Sunday, NAFDAC warned that laboratory tests revealed some of the products contained unsafe levels of banned chemicals that could cause serious health complications.

The agency urged Nigerians to exercise caution when purchasing cosmetic products, noting that many so-called “organic” brands use misleading packaging to sell formulations that pose significant health risks.
