NAFDAC Raises Alarm Over Rising Drug Abuse in Secondary Schools

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has raised concerns over the increasing rate of drug abuse among secondary school students.
Speaking to students at Government Girls Secondary School, Rumukwuta, Port Harcourt, the Director-General of NAFDAC, Mojisola Adeyeye, represented by the South-South Zonal Coordinator, Oligbu Chukwuma, described secondary schools as breeding grounds for drug abuse.
Accordingthe National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), over 14 million Nigerians misuse drugs as of 2024. Adeyeye described drug abuse as a national menace, highlighting its link to rising crime rates and declining productivity.
She further stressed that drug abuse among students leads to poor academic performance and absenteeism. She urged the students to stay away from drugs and serve as NAFDAC ambassadors in their school and community.
