Mutfwang Mourns the Passing of Former FCT Minister, Lt. General Jeremiah Useni

The Executive Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, has announced the passing of the former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Lt. General Jeremiah Timbut Useni, who passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the age of 82 following a prolonged illness.
In a heartfelt statement from Jos, Governor Mutfwang expressed deep sorrow over the death of General Useni, describing it as an immense loss to not only his family but also to the Nigerian Armed Forces, Plateau State, and the entire nation.
Governor Mutfwang highlighted General Useni’s exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment to service, noting that his contributions to Nigeria’s security and political framework, particularly in Northern Nigeria and Plateau State, will be remembered for generations to come.
Reflecting on the late General’s distinguished career, Governor Mutfwang recalled Useni’s service in numerous key roles, including Minister of Transport, Quarter-Master General of the Nigerian Army, and Minister of the FCT. After retiring from the military, General Useni seamlessly transitioned into politics, where he continued to serve Nigeria as the Deputy Chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and later as a Senator for Plateau South under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 2015.
Governor Mutfwang praised General Useni for his lifelong dedication to public service, noting his profound impact in military, political spheres, and his community. He also emphasized the late General’s legacy of compassion, kindness, and generosity, which touched the lives of countless individuals throughout his career.
“On behalf of my family, the government, and the peace-loving people of Plateau State, I extend my deepest sympathies to the President, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the immediate family, and all those mourning the loss of this distinguished elder statesman,” said Governor Mutfwang.
In his concluding remarks, the Governor prayed for divine strength and comfort for the family, the people of Plateau State, and the nation during this difficult period. He called on God to grant solace and peace to all those affected by the loss of the esteemed General.
