Role Purpose
The primary responsibility of this role is to lead and manage the TowerCo Unit’s activities, ensuring a centralized and cohesive approach to Request for Information (RFI) and Work Orders (WO) across stakeholders involved in major network infrastructure projects. These projects span across various technologies, including 2G, 3G, LTE, 5G, Remote Radio Units (RRUs), Small Cells, Microwave (MW) networks, Wireless Transmission Media (WTM), and rural telephony initiatives.
Additionally, the successful candidate will oversee financial reconciliations relating to operational and capital expenditures (OPEX and CAPEX), particularly those linked to lease rentals and tenement rates across MTN’s BTS and co-location sites. The role also includes drafting, reviewing, and managing contractual agreements with TowerCo providers and property landlords.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and manage a comprehensive and accurate database of all TowerCo-related sites.
- Validate technical specifications (e.g., RF and transmission parameters, antenna and tower heights, site configurations) before issuing any Work Orders.
- Monitor all changes and updates on the network database and ensure accuracy of records.
- Collaborate effectively with other departments within the Network Group, including Radio Frequency (RF) Planning, Transmission Planning, Network Implementation, and Regional Operations teams.
- Collect site order data from various Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), track deliveries, and ensure adherence to quality standards and project specifications.
- Identify and escalate potential issues that could affect network availability or delay deployment.
- Continuously assess project needs to proactively identify and mitigate risks during the site development lifecycle.
- Manage negotiations with landlords and TowerCos to secure favorable lease agreements, covering aspects such as rental rates, contract duration, renewal terms, and termination conditions.
- Ensure full compliance with legal, regulatory, and environmental standards related to telecommunications infrastructure.
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Background:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Sciences, or a related discipline.
- Proficiency in English (written and verbal communication).
Experience:
- A total of 6 to 13 years of relevant professional experience.
- Minimum of 6 years in roles closely tied to telecommunications network infrastructure.
- At least 3 years of experience in project management, including team leadership and supervision.
- Proven experience working on multi-vendor network environments.
- Prior experience in mid-sized organizations is desirable.
