Mbah Backs PDP Leadership, Warns of Possible Review of Southeast Membership

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has declared his full support for the positions adopted by the National Working Committee (NWC), the Board of Trustees (BOT), and the South East Zonal Executive Committee (ZEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) amid the ongoing internal crisis threatening to tear the party apart.
Speaking with journalists on Sunday after a closed-door meeting at the Government House in Enugu, Governor Mbah said he was committed to the resolutions reached by the party’s leadership organs and endorsed the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for Monday, June 30, 2025.
The governor, however, did not hide his frustration with the party’s persistent internal wrangling, describing it as “an endless circus.”
“Just as I told Fellows and Members of the Nigerian Guild of Editors in Enugu over the weekend, while I remain a member of the PDP, I am simply fed up with the shenanigans that have characterized the party lately,” Mbah stated.
He reiterated that the South East zone reserved the right to reconsider its membership if its position on the contentious issue of the National Secretary was ignored.
“That was the clear consensus during our last South East Zonal meeting here in Enugu. The caucus agreed that the party should not disregard the zone’s stand regarding the National Secretary position,” he said.
“To all intents and purposes, this has obviously not been the case. So there is no ambiguity about where I stand. The position of the South East on the National Secretaryship of the party, as contained in our communique, remains sacrosanct.”
Present at the meeting were Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde; PDP BOT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara; South East Zonal Chairman, Chief Ali Odefa; former PDP National Chairman and BOT member, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo; Senator Sam Egwu; Iyom Josephine Anenih; Senator Ben Obi; Hon. Udeh-Okoye, and other party leaders.
