Manchester City’s Club World Cup dreams ended in shocking fashion after a dramatic 4–3 loss to Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal in the Round of 16.

Pep Guardiola’s men started brightly, taking the lead in the 9th minute through Bernardo Silva. But Al Hilal responded strongly in the second half, with Marcos Leonardo heading home the equalizer just after the break before Malcom put them ahead moments later.

Erling Haaland drew City level at 2–2 midway through the second half, forcing the game into extra time. However, Kalidou Koulibaly struck for Al Hilal early in the extra period, only for Phil Foden to equalize again with a stunning volley—his 100th goal for the club.

Just as penalties seemed inevitable, Marcos Leonardo popped up again, heading in the winner in the 112th minute to complete his brace and secure a famous victory for Al Hilal.

Despite dominating for long spells and creating several chances, City were undone by wasteful finishing and Al Hilal’s ruthless counterattacks. The defeat means City miss out on a quarter-final clash and a potential £9.6 million in prize money.
