A 55-year-old man, Hamidu Ali, from Babangida in Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State, has allegedly killed his 40-year-old wife with a machete before fleeing to an unknown location.
The Yobe State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Saturday by the Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim.
According to the statement, the Tarmuwa Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress call on June 28, 2025, around 11 a.m. from residents of Koriyel Village reporting that Ali had attacked and killed his wife for reasons yet to be established.
The police assured that efforts were ongoing to track down and arrest the suspect.
In a separate incident, the Command reported the arrest of two men in connection with the killing of a victim accused of stealing a cellphone and a power bank.
On June 27, 2025, at about 5 p.m., operatives of the Fika Divisional Police Headquarters apprehended Musa Sule, 25, and Muntari Suleman, 30, both of Ngalda Town in Fika LGA.
The suspects reportedly confessed to the crime, and investigations have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further action and prosecution.
Yobe State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, called on residents to resolve disputes through lawful means and to avoid taking the law into their own hands.
He also urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies to maintain peace and order, warning against the use of violence under the guise of seeking justice.
