Man Falls From Top Floor of Cocoa House in Ibadan, Investigation Ongoing

A tragic incident occurred on Monday morning in Ibadan as an unidentified man reportedly fell from one of the top floors of the historic 26-storey Cocoa House, located in the heart of the Oyo State capital.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as shocking and surreal. One bystander, visibly shaken, said, “When it happened, I initially thought a large bird was falling from the sky. It wasn’t until he landed that I realized it was a human being.”
Another witness added, “The man hit a roof near the security post before crashing to the ground. It was a terrifying sight. I had my phone with me but was too stunned to even record.”
The circumstances surrounding the fall remain unclear. Authorities have yet to determine whether it was accidental, intentional, or caused by a structural issue. Investigations are currently underway.
Odu’a Investment Company Limited, the firm managing Cocoa House, confirmed the incident in an official statement on Tuesday. According to Victor Ayetoro, Head of Branding and Communication, emergency services responded swiftly, and the victim was transported to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, for urgent medical care.
“The company expressed deep concern over the development and is fully cooperating with authorities to determine the cause of the fall,” Ayetoro said.
As of the time of this report, the victim’s identity and medical condition have not been disclosed.
Cocoa House, a prominent landmark and one of the tallest buildings in West Africa, holds significant historical and economic importance in the region. This incident marks a rare and disturbing event at the iconic site.
