Man Dies After Jumping into Well Under Drug Influence

In a tragic incident that has shocked residents of Ilorin, the Kwara State Fire Service on Friday recovered the lifeless body of a 43-year-old man, simply identified as Kazeem, from a domestic well in the Edun area of the state capital.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the spokesperson of the fire service, Hassan Adekunle, the distress call was received at approximately 10:29 a.m. Reporting parties informed the emergency service that a man had fallen into a well at Ile Alapo, prompting an immediate rescue response.
“Firefighters swiftly arrived at the scene and successfully retrieved the victim’s body,” Adekunle stated.
Investigations revealed that the deceased had allegedly jumped into the well while under the influence of a dangerous psychoactive substance popularly known as “Colo” or “Colorado.” The incident occurred shortly after Kazeem returned from Eid prayers.
Following the recovery, the body was handed over to Inspector Babatunde Amos of the ‘C’ Division Police Station in Ilorin. Authorities are now awaiting formal identification and claim of the body by the deceased’s family members.
Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, expressed profound sorrow over the incident and used the opportunity to caution the public against drug abuse. He warned that the misuse of illicit substances continues to pose a grave threat to lives and community wellbeing.
“This is a heartbreaking reminder of the dangers of drug abuse,” he said. “We urge our citizens to shun such destructive habits and seek healthier ways to cope with challenges.”
