Liberia Defense Minister Resigns

Liberia Defense Minister , Prince Johnson has resigned from his position 10 days after being appointed.
The Liberia Defense Minister resignation signals the first political crisis facing Liberia’s new president, Joseph Boakai, since his inauguration at the end of January 2024.
The Presidency disclosed Johnson’s resignation in a statement on Tuesday and has since announced General Janet George as his provisional replacement.
Johnson cited the current political and civil disturbances occasioned by the protest of women believed to be wives of servicemen, In his resignation letter, stating that his gesture became imperative to preserve the peace and security of the state.
Wives of Liberian soldiers set up roadblocks, forcing Boakai to cancel planned National Army Day celebrations on Monday.
President Boakai asked the army on Monday to ensure that the roadblocks were lifted.
