Leicester City Face Possible Points Deduction Over Alleged Financial Breaches

Leicester City could be hit with a future points deduction after being charged with allegedly breaching the English Football League’s financial regulations
The Foxes have been referred to an independent commission following a Premier League charge for a suspected Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) breach during the 2023–24 season, when the club was in the Championship.
The charge comes after a lengthy jurisdictional dispute between the EFL and Premier League, stemming from Leicester’s recent movement between divisions. A tribunal has now ruled in favor of the Premier League’s authority to charge the club, which has just been relegated again and will play in the Championship next season.
While the case falls under the Premier League’s 12-week fast-track process, any points deduction, if imposed, would likely apply to the 2025–26 Championship campaign.
However, football finance expert Kieran Maguire told BBC Sport that a punishment during Leicester’s time in the Championship is unlikely, given the separation between the EFL and Premier League.
In addition to the PSR charge, the independent commission will investigate two other alleged breaches: Leicester’s failure to submit their accounts by the 31 December 2024 deadline, and an alleged lack of full cooperation with the Premier League’s inquiries.
