The management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has confirmed the killing of one of its students during an unauthorized sign-out ceremony in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

The victim, identified as Marvelous Olanrewaju Babalola, a 300-level Mechanical Engineering student, was shot on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at the Ultramodern Wazo Market.

In a statement, Registrar Olayinka Balogun expressed deep sorrow over the incident, noting that LAUTECH banned sign-out activities on campus in 2023 and warned nearby hotels not to host such events. However, investigations revealed that some students gathered at the market’s football pitch for a sign-out celebration, which turned fatal when Babalola was shot while trying to leave on his motorcycle.

Police officers, alerted by the Acting Dean of Student Affairs, recovered a bag on the victim that confirmed his identity. His remains have been deposited at the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Morgue, and the school says it is working closely with police investigators while keeping his family informed.

The management extended condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues, praying for God to grant him eternal rest and comfort his loved ones.
