Lagos Police Announce Total Lockdown for Local Government Elections on Saturday

The Lagos State Police Command has announced a total restriction of vehicular movement across the state from 3:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2025, due to the Lagos Local Government Elections. The restriction will affect all roads and waterways within Lagos State.
According to the police, all forms of armed escorts are prohibited during the election period. The use of sirens and vehicles with covered or missing number plates is also banned.
Vehicles belonging to quasi-security outfits and state security agencies are not permitted to move, as no state-owned security agency is authorized to participate in the election security operations in line with the Electoral Act.
Exemptions have been made for essential services such as medical and emergency responders, accredited officials of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), accredited election observers, and media practitioners on official election coverage—all of whom must be properly accredited by LASIEC.
All accredited personnel, including security officers, observers, and journalists, are required to wear their LASIEC-certified identification tags throughout the election period.
The Command issued a strong warning to miscreants, hoodlums, and political thugs to stay away from polling units, collation centers, and any designated electoral locations across the state.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious persons or activities by contacting the police via 08063299264 or 08065154338.
