Lagos Launches 2026 Budget Fora to Gather Citizens’ Input

The Lagos State Government has announced that its series of stakeholders’ consultative fora for the 2026 budget will begin this month, creating a platform for residents to directly influence the state’s developmental priorities.
Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Ope George, highlighted the significance of the initiative, describing it as central to Lagos’ budgetary process.
According to him, “The fora will bring together a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including community development committees/associations, traditional rulers, professional and religious bodies, civil society groups, non-governmental and trade organisations, youths, people living with disabilities, and the general public.”
George explained that the exercise was designed to keep citizens’ voices at the heart of decision-making, urging active participation. “The fora will ensure that the voices of the people remain at the centre of governance, urging all residents and stakeholders to take advantage of the opportunity to contribute to the vision of making Lagos a 21st-century economy,” he said.
He further noted that “This inclusive approach reflects the state government’s commitment to participatory governance and evidence-based planning.”
The consultative meetings will hold across the five traditional divisions of Lagos—Ikeja, Lagos Island, Ikorodu, Epe, and Badagry—between September 9 and 16. For those unable to attend in person, the government has also provided an option for virtual participation, with residents encouraged to send an email stating their division of interest.
