Lagos Governor Urges Corps Members to Embrace NYSC Opportunities

The Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has implored corps members deployed to Lagos to lay a solid foundation for their service year through active participation in all activities of the NYSC Scheme.
Sanwo-Olu gave the address at the swearing-in of the 2024 Batch C Stream 2 corps members on Friday. The event was held at the NYSC temporary orientation camp, Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos State.
Sanwo-Olu was represented by the Permanent Secretary from the Lagos State ministry of Youth and Social Development, Pharmacist Mrs. Toyin Oke Osanyintolu.

5,316 corps members, consisting of 2,162 males and 3,154 females, would be serving in Lagos State under the stream. However, some of them were sent to Ondo, Ekiti and Osun states for the orientation course.
Sanwo-Olu called on corps members deployed to the state to embrace the opportunity of the orientation programmes to be better.
“I implore you to make maximum use of the opportunity that this orientation exercise provides for you to network, make new friends, and develop relationships that would be impactful and useful in life”.
“I urge you to ensure strict compliance and adherence to the rules and regulations of the camp as they have been put in place for your safety and to guarantee a hitch gree orientation course for everyone,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu encouraged them to lay a solid foundation for their service year and urge them to put in their best in the activities of the NYSC Scheme. “ I enjoin you to resolve within your heart to put in your best and lay a solid foundation for your service year through your active participation in all camp activities, “he added.
The Coordinator of NYSC in Lagos State, Mrs Christana Salmwang, thanked Governor Sanwo-Olu for his administration’s support for NYSC.
Salmwang advised the corps members to be determined to take full advantage of the orientation programmes to develop themselves.

She noted that the Orientation Course will also afford corps members the opportunity to plan their life in alignment with the newness of the year.
“You must understand that time waits for no man. Therefore, approach everything before you with all seriousness. While at this, you must also come to the realization that as vanguards of development, you have a vital role to play in the nation. The development of the nation is not bestowed on one person but the responsibility of all, the sum total of our commitment. Therefore, we must show commitment to the nation as we have no other place we call home,” she added.
Also, Justice Mosunmola Muyibat Balogun administered the oath of allegiance to the corps members on behalf of the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Alogba.

Present at the ceremony were, Commisioner of police represented by DPO Elere Agege, CSP Smith Olanrawaju, Director, Department of State Services represented by Mrs Amala Mark, State Commandant NDLEA, State Commandant NSCDC, Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and NYSC officials.
