Lagos Culture and Traditions Take Center Stage as Oniru Visits NYSC Camp

In a groundbreaking move, His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan Lawal, the Oniru of Iru Kingdom, paid a historic visit to the NYSC Lagos Orientation Camp, marking the first time an Oniru has visited the camp.
The visit was met with excitement and fanfare as corps members and officials alike welcomed the esteemed monarch.
During his visit, the Oba delivered a lecture to the 2024 Batch “B” Stream I Corps Members, providing valuable insights into Lagos culture and traditions.
He emphasized the importance of understanding and appreciating the communities they serve, stressing the need to respect and honor the cultural heritage of the state.
The Oba showcased the rich cultural heritage of Lagos, highlighting various festivals and divinities, including the Eyo festival, Egungun festival, Gelede, Odun Agba, and Elegba Ejiwa festival, among others.
He also spoke about the significance of traditional practices and customs, such as the worship of various divinities like Ogun, Sango, Olode, and Sopona.
Oba Lawal’s lecture was interactive, with corps members asking questions and engaging in discussions. He encouraged them to embrace the cultural diversity of Lagos and to use their service year as an opportunity to learn and grow.
