Corps members of the 2025 Batch B Stream 1 at the NYSC Lagos Orientation Camp, Iyana-Ipaja, have begun learning basic Yoruba language skills to help them adapt to life in Lagos and integrate effectively into their host communities.

The language session was facilitated by Mrs. Beatrice Fayinto, who emphasized the importance of Yoruba as the most widely spoken language in Lagos State, located in Nigeria’s South-West region. She highlighted that many corps members from other parts of the country often struggle with cultural and linguistic differences, making such lessons essential.

During the interactive session, corps members were taught common greetings, numerals, days of the week, months of the year, parts of the body, and culturally appropriate ways to address elders and in-laws.

Mrs. Fayinto also provided practical tips on Yoruba etiquette, stressing that understanding local customs fosters mutual respect, reduces misunderstandings, and aids in everyday interactions such as bargaining in local markets.
