Lagos Assembly swears in first female speaker Mojisola Meranda

The Lagos State House of Assembly has sworn in its first female Speaker, Mojisola Meranda.
Mojisola Meranda, who represents the Apapa 1 constituency, took her oath of office on Monday during a plenary session following the impeachment of the former Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa.
In the new leadership structure, Mojeed Fatai has been appointed as the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly.
Obasa’s impeachment has sparked significant public interest and scrutiny, particularly as it comes in the wake of allegations that he misappropriated seventeen billion naira to repair the assembly complex gate.
The allegations, which have been widely circulated, contributed to growing calls for accountability within the state legislature.
