Labour Party Faction Gives Peter Obi 48-Hour Ultimatum to Quit After Coalition Move

The Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Peter Obi, demanding he resign from the party following his involvement in a newly formed political coalition.
In a statement released in Abuja on Wednesday and signed by the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, the group distanced itself from the coalition and criticized those involved as “power-hungry individuals driven by self-interest rather than national progress.”
The faction accused Obi of secretly lobbying party members to join him in the new alliance but claimed many had refused to defect.
“We are aware of several nocturnal meetings between Peter Obi and some of our members, lobbying them to join him in his new party. We’re also aware that a number of them have refused to defect with him,” Ifoh stated.
Reiterating the faction’s stance, he said any member of the Labour Party found to be part of the coalition must resign within 48 hours.
“Labour Party is not available for people with dual agenda or a deceptive persona. You cannot have one leg in Labour Party and the other in a coalition,” Ifoh added.
He further dismissed the coalition’s promise of a “New Nigeria” as a façade, saying the group was made up of “old, recycled, desperate, and frustrated politicians” seeking to reclaim relevance and power.
“The new Nigeria the youths are dreaming of cannot be achieved with the same gerontocrats and opportunistic politicians. It is only the Labour Party that can lead the nation toward real change,” he asserted.
Ifoh urged party members to remain loyal and preserve the existing party structure ahead of the next election cycle.
