Labour Party Faction Blasts Abure Over Wike Meeting, Reaffirms Suspension

A faction of the Labour Party (LP) led by Senator Nenadi Usman has launched a scathing attack on suspended National Chairman Julius Abure, following the circulation of a viral photograph showing him in the company of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by Ken Asogwa, Senior Special Adviser on Media to the Acting National Chairman, the group said the image confirms long-held suspicions about Abure’s true political loyalties.
“While Mr. Peter Obi remains focused on addressing Nigeria’s pressing challenges, and Senator Nenadi Usman is attending high-level meetings abroad with his full support, both committed to advancing the Labour Party’s mission, Barr. Julius Abure is busy hobnobbing with forces bent on destroying the party,” the statement read.
The faction accused Abure of aligning with those it described as “sponsors of oppression, tyranny, and electoral malpractice,” and accused him of deliberately sabotaging the party from within.
Asogwa said Abure’s appearance alongside Wike — a known political opponent of the Labour Party — reinforces fears that he is “a willing tool in the hands of external actors determined to destabilize the party.”
The statement further criticized Abure’s leadership, alleging that he was absent during key party events, including local government elections in Lagos and gubernatorial campaigns in Anambra, Kogi, and Edo States.
“He vanished when the party needed leadership, unity, and a strategy for grassroots mobilization,” the group said.
Reaffirming Abure’s suspension, the faction maintained that he no longer holds any official role in the party and described his ongoing political activities as a violation of trust.
“His neglect of duty, combined with his continuous romance with those opposed to the New Nigeria vision, led to his suspension. The key question remains: whose agenda is Julius Abure truly serving?” Asogwa asked.
The statement concluded with a rallying cry to safeguard the Labour Party from “crooked individuals” who seek to hijack its ideals for personal interest.
“This party belongs to the Nigerian people. It will not be allowed to fall into the hands of those who betray its mission while others sacrifice for a better, more just Nigeria,” it stated.
