Kwara Declares Thursday Public Holiday to Mark 1447 Hijrah

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has declared Thursday, June 26, 2025, a public holiday to mark the beginning of the Islamic New Year, 1447 AH.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, on Wednesday.
The governor congratulated the people of Kwara, especially the Muslim community, on the arrival of the new Hijrah year and urged them to reflect on its deeper meaning.
“The Governor has approved that Thursday, the first day of Muharram 1447, be observed as a public holiday across the state in commemoration of the new Islamic calendar,” the statement read.
He called on the Muslim faithful to embrace the lessons of Hijrah, which he said emphasize personal and collective sacrifice, peaceful coexistence, social justice, and mutual respect.
“Hijrah teaches the need to abandon everything that contradicts peace and harmony in society,” he said.
Governor AbdulRazaq also prayed that the new Islamic year brings peace, security, prosperity, and renewed faith to all families in Kwara State.
