Kwam 1 Denies Misconduct at Abuja Airport, Says He Was Victim of Escalated Incident

Fuji music icon, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as Kwam 1, has denied allegations of misconduct during an incident at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, insisting he was the victim — not the aggressor.
In a statement released by his media aide, Kunle Rasheed, the veteran artiste dismissed claims that he violated aviation protocols or disrupted the boarding of a ValueJet flight on August 5, 2025.
“Reports alleging that King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal displayed unruly conduct while attempting to board a ValueJet flight are not only exaggerated but misleading,” the statement read.
Kwam 1 clarified that the substance which drew security attention was plain drinking water, handed to him at the lounge — not alcohol or contraband.
“Despite his respectful effort to clarify this, the situation was unnecessarily escalated,” the statement added.
He also rejected claims that he blocked the aircraft or interfered with flight operations, describing such reports as “completely unfounded.” According to him, as a frequent flyer both locally and internationally, he understands and complies with all aviation rules.
Kwam 1 further revealed that ValueJet management, including its Chairman and Managing Director, reached out to apologise and even offered him a private jet flight to Lagos — which he turned down.
“If there had been any inappropriate conduct, officials from FAAN, NCAA, or the airline’s top executives wouldn’t have offered such an apology and arrangement,” the statement noted.
He emphasized that only he and his personal assistant were directly involved in the incident, and several eyewitnesses among the passengers appealed to him to remain calm.
Reacting to reports about the pilot, he said: “The pilot now has her license suspended. It’s no surprise if she tries to shift blame — she must lie to protect herself.”
Kwam 1 urged both the media and the public to avoid sensationalism and allow facts to guide their judgment.
Meanwhile, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has confirmed it is probing the matter, which has stirred broader debate over celebrity behavior, airport security, and corporate accountability within Nigeria’s aviation sector.
