Nollywood actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo has alleged that Labour Party National Chairman, Julius Abure, is working as an agent of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to destabilize former LP presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Speaking in a recent interview with Symfoni TV, Okonkwo claimed the Abure-led leadership has been compromised and is actively working against Obi’s political ambitions. He accused the party’s executives of lying to and misleading Obi, despite still being publicly endorsed by him.

“I told Obi that these people had become agents in the hands of the government to destabilise him,” Okonkwo said. “And after saying all those things, within like 72 hours, Obi went back to Abure’s office to publicly endorse them.”

The allegations come amid ongoing internal strife in the Labour Party. Obi recently blamed the All Progressives Congress (APC) for infiltrating the LP and causing internal turmoil. However, LP’s National Secretary, Umar Ibrahim, refuted Obi’s claim and insisted the crisis is an internal issue, not caused by external interference.

Despite the leadership tussle, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) still officially recognizes Julius Abure as the party’s chairman. Abure is currently facing leadership challenges from other top party figures including Arabambi and Nenadi Usman.
