Kebbi gov’t reassures residents of safety after Lakurawa attacks

Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has directed that the victims of the Lakurawa bandits attack on IDP camps in Arewa Local Government Area of the state are to return to their homes within the next two weeks.
The Governor gave the directive when he paid a condolence visit to internally displaced persons in Kangiwa, who were attacked and displaced by Lakurawa in Birnin Debe, Dan Marke and Tambo villages.
Governor Idris said measures were put in place in the affected areas to allow the resident return in safety.
Insisting that the attacks were usually launched from neighbouring Sokoto State and Niger Republic, the Governor expressed displeasure at the loss of lives and property.
Alhaji Sani Aliyu, the Chairman of Arewa Local Government Area, had earlier thanked the Governor for taking urgent action to bring the ugly situation under control.
Alhaji Aliyu also said relief assistance was being given to the victims, explaining that the families of each of the deceased, as well as those injured in the attacks, received N500,000 respectively.
On Sunday, the Lakurawa bandits attacked seven villages in Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State, killing at least 10 people and burning down many houses in retaliation for the killing of one of their leaders, Maigemu, by security forces.
