Kano Transport Commissioner Resigns After Indictment Over Drug Baron’s Bail

Kano State Commissioner for Transportation, Alhaji Ibrahim Namadi, has resigned from office just hours after Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf received the findings of a committee that investigated his involvement in the controversial bail of an alleged drug baron, Sulaiman Danwawu.
The resignation was announced on Wednesday in a statement issued by the Director General of Media and Publicity at the Kano Government House, Sanusi Bature DawakinTofa.
Namadi said he stepped down in the public’s interest, acknowledging the sensitivity of the issue.
“As a member of an administration that has consistently championed the fight against the sales and consumption of illicit drugs, it behoves me to take this step—painful as it may be. While I maintain my innocence, I cannot ignore the weight of public perception and the need to protect the values we have collectively built,” the statement read.
He thanked Governor Yusuf for the opportunity to serve and reaffirmed his commitment to the principles of good governance and responsible leadership.
“I must, as a good citizen, strive to protect, preserve, and uphold the trust and vision we have worked so hard to instil in our dear state. I remain loyal to the ideals that brought this administration into office,” Namadi added.
The statement confirmed that Governor Yusuf accepted the resignation and wished Namadi well in his future endeavors. The governor also restated his administration’s firm stance on justice, discipline, and its ongoing war against drug-related crimes and social vices.
He cautioned all political appointees to act with discretion when handling sensitive matters and to seek clearance from higher authorities before involving themselves in issues of public concern.
Earlier this week, PUNCH Online reported that a fact-finding committee, chaired by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Justice and Constitutional Matters, Aminu Hussain, submitted its report to the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Ibrahim. The panel conducted a detailed and impartial investigation into Namadi’s role in the bail of Sulaiman Danwawu.
The committee concluded that Namadi acted negligently and was culpable for standing as surety for the suspected drug baron without conducting proper due diligence.
