Peter Obi Unveils Strategy to End Nigeria’s Power Crisis

Dumebi Kachikwu, former presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has alleged that Peter Obi is already considering leaving the newly launched coalition under the ADC, claiming it was designed to promote Atiku Abubakar’s 2027 presidential ambition.

Obi, who contested the 2023 presidency on the Labour Party platform, joined other opposition figures earlier this month to launch the ADC-led coalition aimed at unseating the ruling APC. Just two days after the coalition’s unveiling, Obi declared his interest in running for president in 2027, though he remains a Labour Party member.

Appearing on Channels TV’s Sunday Politics, Kachikwu claimed Obi is now distancing himself from the coalition after realizing it’s being tailored to support Atiku.

“The whole ADC structure is being packaged for the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar,” Kachikwu said. “Peter Obi now understands this. From our understanding, he’s looking in other directions. Other aspirants are also beginning to realise this is not a coalition but a vehicle for Atiku’s ambition.”

Kachikwu, who has long accused Atiku and others of hijacking his party, vowed to resist any attempt to use the ADC for “class exploitation” in 2027.

He added that he would continue to educate Nigerians on their democratic rights to prevent political elites from manipulating the system.
