Jose Mourinho has been fired by Roma.

The Giallorossi have won just one of their previous six Serie A games and were recently eliminated from the Coppa Italia by city rivals Lazio, in which Mourinho received a red card.

Following that loss, Mourinho compared himself to the fictional wizard Harry Potter, claiming that his position at the club was heightening fans’ expectations of success.

They trail league leaders Inter Milan by 22 points in tenth in Serie A.

The 60-year-old joined Roma in 2021 and spent two-and-a-half years in the role, leading them to the Europa Conference League title in 2022.

He also guided them to the Europa League final last season, where they were defeated by Sevilla on penalties. His contract was due to expire in June.

“For two and a half years I haven’t done anything wrong, not even a couple of weeks ago when everyone was sick. I do not accept in any way that my professionalism and dignity, my heart for this job, can be questioned. If there is a perfect example of professionalism, it is me. I have never missed one match in over 20 years of my career.” he noted.

Mourinho joined Roma in 2021 after previously managing FC Porto, Chelsea (twice), Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Tottenham. He accepted the Roma job barely 15 days after being fired from Spurs.
