Jack Dorsey Launches Offline Messaging App ‘Bitchat’ with Encrypted Bluetooth Communication

Published

on

Twitter co-founder and Block CEO, Jack Dorsey, has introduced Bitchat, a new messaging app that allows users to send encrypted messages without needing an internet connection.

The app works by creating a mesh network using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), enabling secure, peer-to-peer communication between nearby devices. This makes it ideal for areas with weak or no internet access.

Messages on Bitchat are end-to-end encrypted, stored only on users’ devices, and automatically deleted after a short time, emphasizing privacy and security.

One standout feature is the app’s ability to form local Bluetooth clusters. As users move around, messages can hop from one device to another, allowing them to travel beyond standard Bluetooth range.

If a user is offline when a message is sent, the app delivers it once they reconnect to the mesh network.

With Bitchat, Dorsey is promoting a decentralized and privacy-focused alternative to traditional messaging platforms.
