Iyabo Ojo Fires Back At VeryDarkMan, Defends Role In Mohbad Justice Movement

Iyabo Ojo has fired back at VeryDarkMan over claims that a secret WhatsApp group was created to manipulate public opinion and orchestrate his arrest in the campaign for justice for the late singer, Mohbad.
In a lengthy Instagram post, Iyabo wrote:
“In an attempt to set the record straight and avoid lies, which seem to be repeatedly milled around to create an impression of truth, it is better to respond otherwise the gospel of foolishness would ascend the crescendo of conscience.”
She clarified that the WhatsApp group in question was never secret and was created to coordinate efforts for justice after the cancellation of a planned peaceful walk. According to her,
“To begin with, it should be reiterated, the very first video I made about seeking justice for Mohbad clearly stated that I couldn’t fight this battle alone. I called on everyone ready to join the fight, including known celebrities, not mentioning their names. Two groups formed: one for a peaceful walk and another, ‘Concerned Citizens’ for those who still wanted to be part of the movement after the walk was cancelled.”
She insisted the aim of the group was never to get anyone arrested.
“The group’s objective was to seek justice for Mohbad through writing and seeking rightful authority intervention, not to get you arrested. You were arrested for defamation, not for seeking justice for Mohbad – let’s be clear.”
Iyabo also accused VeryDarkMan of deliberately pushing falsehoods for clout:
“I am not oblivious you’d rather go the extra mile to cast aspersion, deploy several awful innuendos, disparaging fictitious narratives to cancel the efforts of like minds in order to place your skitmaking at vantage position and high traction in social media. But we have got better purpose to achieve than resort to pull him/her down syndrome.”
She addressed the chatter around shared content in the group, saying:
“A lot of links that were already circulating on social media were posted in the group not like we created any. Likewise, if any link is related to you or your gory past, already in the public domain, how does that link any individual to your social entanglements?”
Iyabo confirmed she had once petitioned VeryDarkMan for defamation, but later withdrew it after her partner Paulo intervened:
“Regarding your arrest, I was involved in the first petition against you for defamation, but you weren’t arrested then; you were invited and left the same day. I didn’t follow it up because Paulo asked me to drop it.”
She clarified her name only appeared as a witness in the second petition:
“In the second petition, my name was included as a witness due to numerous false accusations.”
Listing the goals of the group, she wrote:
“Our main objectives for the group were:
- Exhumation: Exhume Mohbad’s body for an autopsy to determine the cause of death
- Investigation: Investigate disturbing videos, pictures, petitions, and write-ups
- Inquiry: Conduct an investigation by interviewing everyone who was with him in his last moments
- Befitting Burial: Ensure a befitting burial”
She noted that the group also advocated for Mohbad’s royalties and music catalog to be handed over to his family, and that key goals had been achieved:
“We achieved some goals: Mohbad’s body was exhumed, a coroner’s inquest was set up, and everyone mentioned in his petition was questioned. We lent our voices and pushed for justice as concerned citizens.”
Iyabo made it clear she was not paid for her activism:
“I was driven by a quest for justice for Mohbad, not financial gain. Every penny spent was from my own pocket. No one, I repeat, no one paid me contrary to the lies that are being peddled.”
She ended her post by saying she would no longer address the issue:
“Moving forward I will no longer address any issue relating to this matter.”
In her caption, she also clarified that she never requested a meeting with VeryDarkMan:
“Nothing about the group was secret… Also @verydarkblackman to clear the air, I never requested to see you. Officer Suleiman was the one who pleaded with me to settle and make peace with you. He then called me on June 28th at 6:45 a.m., informing me that you wanted to meet with me, and I agreed, and peace was made.”
