I’ve resumed as Lagos Assemby Speaker- Obasa

On Thursday, Obasa, in the company of some police orderlies, found his way into the office of the Speaker, Meranda.
Mudashiru Obasa, the ousted Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has resumed his position as the leader of the House.
Obasa, who was speaking to journalists at the Assembly complex, explained that his removal was illegally done, rendering it invalid.
According to Obasa, impeachment, when carried out, must be according to recognized laid-down regulations and procedures, acknowledging that impeachment, all over the world, is backed by the constitution.
On Thursday, Obasa, in the company of some police orderlies, found his way into the office of the Speaker, Meranda.
Victor Ganzallo, the Special Adviser on Information to the Mojisola Meranda, had earlier said that the police escort guarding Meranda and those safeguarding the Assembly had been withdrawn.
According to him, the security personnel were withdrawn without any explanation.
On 13 January 2025, Mudashiru Obasa was impeached by the majority of members of the Lagos State House of Assembly over allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of office.
Soon after, his deputy, Mojisola Merinda, was brought back to lead the assembly as the first Lagos female speaker, with Mojeed Fatai appointed as the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly.
Obasa, feeling that his removal was unfair and that proper procedures were not followed, took legal action against the assembly.
