Israel Kills Top Iranian Military Chief Ali Shadmani As Tensions Escalate

Israel’s military has announced the killing of Ali Shadmani, Iran’s wartime chief of staff, describing him as the country’s most senior military commander.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the strike on Tuesday, stating that Shadmani played a central role in shaping Iran’s military strategy and regional operations. However, no details were provided regarding the location or circumstances of his death, according to Reuters.
Shadmani’s death marks a major escalation in the ongoing hostilities between Israel and Iran, which have already claimed hundreds of lives on both sides. Reports indicate that at least 224 people have been killed in Iran, while 24 fatalities have been recorded in Israel.
The international community, including China and Turkey, has called for calm and urged both nations to pursue diplomatic solutions. Despite these appeals, tensions remain high, with no clear signs of de-escalation.
In a related development, leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) nations released a joint statement on Tuesday reaffirming their support for Israel’s right to self-defense.
“We affirm that Israel has a right to defend itself. We reiterate our support for the security of Israel,” the G7 statement read.
The leaders also stressed the need to protect civilians and called for a broader reduction of hostilities in the region, including a ceasefire in Gaza.
The statement comes as Iran and Israel continue to trade heavy strikes, fueling concerns of a wider regional war. U.S. President Donald Trump, who was attending the G7 summit in Canada, reportedly left the event early in response to the escalating crisis in the Middle East.
