ISPON Trains Corps Members on Safety at Lagos Camp

The Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (ISPON) has conducted a comprehensive safety training for Batch B Stream 1 corps members at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos.
The session, led by Mrs. Kate Eke, aimed to equip corps members with essential safety knowledge and awareness as part of their orientation programme. ISPON, a federal government-chartered body, is responsible for setting and enforcing safety standards and regulations across both public and private sectors in Nigeria. The institute also offers certification and training opportunities, including specialized programmes for corps members.
During the training, corps members were informed about ISPON’s role in ensuring all workplaces in Nigeria adhere to government-mandated safety protocols, including the requirement for designated safety officers. The agency also promotes environmental quality, workplace safety, and public health nationwide.

Mrs. Eke explained that the ISPON-NYSC initiative, launched in 2023, seeks to foster a culture of safety consciousness among young Nigerians while also promoting national peace and unity.
She shared general safety tips with the corps members, encouraging them to remain vigilant in their environments, always carry valid identification, maintain peaceful and tolerant interactions to reduce conflicts, and avoid sharing personal information with strangers.
Additionally, Mrs. Eke introduced the key elements of safety consciousness, which include: information, communication, responsibility, collaboration, action, and a positive attitude toward life.
The training was part of ISPON’s broader effort to embed safety culture in Nigerian society, starting with the youth.
