INEC to Begin Nationwide Continuous Voter Registration August 18 Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it will commence a nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise on August 18, 2025, as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
This was disclosed by the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Benue State, Prof. Sam Egwu, during a briefing in Makurdi.
According to Prof. Egwu, the exercise is in line with constitutional requirements to register Nigerians who have turned 18 since the last general election.
He said the CVR will be conducted across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), beginning with online pre-registration via the INEC website.
This will be followed by physical registration at all INEC Area Offices and other designated centres nationwide, starting from August 25, 2025. The in-person exercise will hold on weekdays, Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
