INEC Lagos REC Reaffirms Strategic Role of NYSC in Electoral Credibility

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State, Professor Ayobami Salami, has reaffirmed the strategic importance of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in ensuring credible and transparent elections in Nigeria.
During a courtesy visit to the NYSC Orientation Camp in Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos, the REC emphasized the need to strengthen the longstanding partnership between both institutions. The visit, his first since assuming office, was aimed at deepening collaboration and laying the groundwork for future electoral engagements.

The REC acknowledged the NYSC’s consistent role in election administration, describing the partnership as a dynamic and results-oriented framework that has remained effective despite changes in personnel. He underscored the corps’ role as indispensable in the deployment of non-partisan and youthful manpower for election duties.
Welcoming the INEC team, the Lagos State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Christiana Salmwang, highlighted the corps’ historic contributions to Nigeria’s electoral process. She reflected on the corps’ field experience and reaffirmed NYSC’s readiness to support INEC in all future electoral exercises. She further endorsed the REC’s push for early engagement as a proactive step toward better coordination and logistics.

Also present at the meeting were the NYSC Lagos Camp Director, Mrs. Itohan Ehimwenma, senior NYSC officials, and members of the INEC delegation.
The meeting is part of INEC’s broader effort to consolidate institutional partnerships and enhance the credibility of electoral outcomes ahead of forthcoming polls.
