INEC Begins Nationwide Voter Registration Exercise

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the start of its Nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, beginning today with the online pre-registration phase.
In a statement shared on its official X handle on Monday, the commission explained that eligible Nigerians can now begin the process by logging on to www.cvr.inecnigeria.org. The physical registration is scheduled to follow on August 25, 2025.
INEC confirmed that “in-person registration will take place at all its 37 state offices and 774 local government area (LGA) offices nationwide, to ensure easy access for prospective voters.”
The exercise, according to the commission, is open to citizens who have just turned 18, Nigerians seeking to transfer or collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and those needing replacements for missing or damaged cards.
At the same time, INEC issued a warning against multiple registrations, stressing that offenders could face sanctions. The commission appealed to Nigerians to make use of the opportunity, emphasizing that voter registration remains a cornerstone of inclusive democratic participation.
It added, “The CVR exercise is open to new voters aged 18 and above, those who wish to collect or transfer their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and individuals who need to replace lost or damaged PVCs.”
For enquiries, INEC advised members of the public to contact its call centre on 0700-CALL-INEC (0700-2255-4632) or use the short code 4632.
Reaffirming its commitment to democratic consolidation, the commission assured that every qualified Nigerian will have the chance to register ahead of the forthcoming elections.
