Imo State Bans Nursery And JSS3 Graduation Parties, Restricts Yearly Textbook Changes

Imo State Government has abolished graduation ceremonies for nursery and Junior Secondary School 3 pupils and placed new restrictions on annual textbook changes.
Commissioner for Education, Professor Bernard Ikegwuoha, announced the policy in a memo issued to parents, guardians and school operators at the weekend.
The directive, effective immediately, states that only Primary 6 and Senior Secondary School 3 students are permitted to hold graduation ceremonies, in line with Nigeria’s 6-3-3-4 education structure.
Ikegwuoha said the measure is intended to curb unnecessary expenses for parents, maintain focus on academics and strengthen the quality of education across the state.
The memo also ordered school proprietors to stop the yearly practice of introducing new textbooks, which he described as financially draining for families and unfair to siblings who could otherwise reuse learning materials.
