A 50-year-old man, identified as Odomma, has reportedly taken his own life in the Amakpu Okuku community of Owerri West Local Government Area, Imo State.

According to residents, his body was discovered hanging in an unfinished building near his home on August 22. The tragedy is believed to have been driven by financial difficulties that left him unable to provide for himself and his family.

Villagers revealed that Odomma had previously threatened to end his life about three months ago, expressing frustration that his wife and children had allegedly stopped giving him food due to his inability to support the family.

A community member, identified only as Ikenna, told Punch that the deceased had confided in friends about his struggles.

“He said if the situation continued, he would take his life to end the misery. We advised him to report the matter to the village head for settlement. Sadly, he chose this path. Just see how this man ended his life because of money. He could have sold his GP tank or generator to get food, but he decided to take his life. Now others will gather to eat and he won’t be part of it,” Ikenna said.
