“I’m Not Nursing Any Political Ambition For Now,” – Nwali

Ebonyi-born industrialist and Managing Director of C-Sagas Group of Companies, Arc. Christian Asaga Nwali has poured cold water on the growing rumors, insisting that he is not nursing any political ambition—for now.
Speaking to journalists in Abakaliki, Nwali was quick to acknowledge the increasing public attention surrounding his expansive humanitarian efforts across Ebonyi State. But he maintained that his mission is rooted in compassion, not politics.
“There is nothing new we are doing now that we haven’t been doing before,” he said. “We’ve been building houses, donating vehicles, and supporting the underprivileged long before politics became a topic of conversation.”
Observers have pointed to Nwali’s sustained grassroots interventions—ranging from the donation of vehicles to individuals, educational scholarships, and community empowerment projects—as signs of a calculated political buildup. But the architect strongly refuted such assumptions.
“Even during the 10th anniversary of C-Sagas seven years ago, we gave out 10 vehicles. At that time, there was no election in sight. I did it because I wanted to, not because I was eyeing a political seat,” he explained.
Nonetheless, with 2027 drawing near and power dynamics already shifting within Ebonyi’s political landscape, calls for Nwali to throw his hat into the ring have grown louder.
His popularity among youths, the less privileged, and community stakeholders has led many to believe he could be a formidable candidate—particularly for Ebonyi Central Senatorial District.
When pressed on whether he would consider contesting, Nwali was diplomatic but non-committal.
“I’m not thinking about any election right now,” he stated. “Running for office is not something you wake up and decide to do. It requires public consent and divine direction. My focus remains service to humanity.”
He, however, did not completely shut the door to future political involvement, hinting that leadership—whether political or philanthropic—should be driven by purpose, not ambition.
“Yes, many people in my age group are qualified to run. But all roads don’t lead to the same place. I know my path, and it is service—empowering people and making a difference, whether or not I’m in office,” he remarked.
Despite his firm denials, many political analysts believe Nwali’s wide reach through the C-Sagas Charity Foundation—which has extended its partnerships with influential figures—could serve as a launchpad should he decide to run.
Critics argue that in Nigeria’s political context, philanthropy often functions as soft campaigning, but Nwali disagrees.
“We’re not doing this to challenge the government or to gain votes. Empowered people don’t turn to crime. Our work reduces suffering and complements government efforts. That’s all,” he asserted.
Still, in a state where political ambition often finds its roots in humanitarian outreach, the question remains: Is Arc. Christian Nwali being modest about a well-guarded political intention, or is he genuinely uninterested in electoral politics?
For now, the architect remains focused on his humanitarian mission, telling those fanning political speculations to stay patient.
“Let the politicians talk. I’m focused on people, not politics. I know what I’m doing, and I know why I’m doing it,” he concluded.
