IGP to Decorate Promoted Award-Winning Officers

In a strong show of support for professionalism and reward for excellence, the Nigeria Police Force has announced that the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, will on Tuesday, 5th August 2025, decorate two officers recently promoted by the Police Service Commission (PSC) for their outstanding service and repeated national recognition.
This was revealed in a press release issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Monday.
According to the statement, the decoration will take place at 12 noon at the IGP Smart Conference Room, Force Headquarters, Abuja, and will mark a historic moment for the Force as it further institutionalizes the culture of rewarding merit, courage, and commitment.
“Mr. President said two weeks, we are more than three months [since the grace period]. That is Nigeria for you,” the minister said. “We have just finished a programme. I am going to seal up all those properties; I’m going to seal them up.” (Note: This quote does not belong in this story and may have been included in error. It is unrelated to the police welfare press release.)
The officers to be decorated include:
● CSP Shaba Aliyu, recipient of the Police Officer of the Year 2023, promoted to Assistant Commissioner of Police with effect from 31st December 2023.
● SP Sentome Obi, Police Officer of the Year 2024, promoted to Chief Superintendent of Police, with effect from 31st December 2024.
The Force explained that these promotions are part of its earlier public commitment—outlined in Press Release No. CZ:5300/FPRD/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.6/472 dated 25th July 2025—to fast-track promotion for any officer who has won major police awards in two consecutive years.
“This is what institutional pride looks like. This is how trust is built, from within,” the statement read, highlighting the IGP’s belief that rewarding integrity and dedication is the bedrock of reform.
In line with the significance of the moment, the IGP has directed that a police jet be deployed to transport both officers—ACP Shaba Aliyu and CSP Sentome Obi—to Abuja for the decoration ceremony. Their photographs have also been mounted at the main entrance of the Force Headquarters, as well as at Zonal and State Command Headquarters across the country.
Also included in this wave of accelerated promotions are several other officers who have earned multiple commendation letters for exceptional performance, especially staff of the IGP Secretariat.
“We stand firm in our mission: to build a force where honour is celebrated, service is valued, and excellence is not an exception but the expectation,” the release concluded.
The Nigeria Police Force has reiterated that under its current leadership, professionalism, integrity, and service will not go unnoticed—and will be tangibly rewarded.
