IGP Egbetokun Orders Flags at Half-Mast to Honour Late Solomon Arase

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has directed that all police flags across the country be flown at half-mast in honour of former IGP and ex-chairman of the Police Service Commission, Solomon Arase, who died on Sunday, August 31, at Cedarcrest Hospital, Abuja.
Arase, who was the 18th indigenous Inspector-General of Police, passed away at the age of 69 after a brief illness, according to his family.
In a tribute, Egbetokun described the late police chief as a revered officer whose legacy remains deeply respected within the Force. He also announced the opening of a condolence register in his honour at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
A statement by the Nigeria Police Force read: “IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, pens heartfelt tributes to the late 18th Indigenous Inspector-General of Police, IGP Solomon E. Arase, CFR, whose passing was announced yesterday, 31st August, 2025. The Nigeria Police Force has opened a Condolence Register at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, for the revered former Police Chief, as senior officers and staff pay their respects. In honour of his memory, the Police flag will fly at half-mast in all Commands and Formations nationwide.”
The statement also confirmed that the IGP chaired a statutory management meeting at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, during which a minute’s silence was observed for the late Arase.
“Force Management Team Holds Statutory Meeting, Observes Minute Silence for Late IGP Solomon E. Arase, CFR. The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, presided over the Statutory Management Meeting at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, where members of the Police Management Team observed a solemn minute of silence in honour of the late 18th Indigenous Inspector-General of Police, IGP Solomon E. Arase, CFR,” it added.
