IGP Egbetokun Hails Nigerian Police Officers for Outstanding Peacekeeping Service in Somalia

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has commended officers of the Nigeria Formed Police Unit (NFPU) deployed to Somalia for their exemplary performance, professionalism, and dedication to duty under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).
According to a statement issued by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the officers, who served in Somalia from October 16, 2023, to June 14, 2025, have now been redeployed to take on administrative roles and serve as the NFPU-12 Command Element at the AUSSOM Police and Mission Headquarters in Mogadishu.
In a letter dated June 12, 2025, addressed to the IGP by the AUSSOM Police Commissioner, the Nigerian officers were praised for their ability to quickly adapt from their roles as Formed Police Unit personnel to Individual Police Officer (IPO) tasks with minimal or no induction training. Their swift mastery of administrative and operational duties during a critical phase of security transition was described as “exceptional.”
Among the 15 officers redeployed are CSP Shehu Gani Ahmed, SP Abraham Akhojie, SP Olivia Ugochukwu, SP Aliyu Makwa, DSP Jack Prince, DSP Odey Kingsley Lukpata, IP Nwite Sunday, and Sgt Ayeni Richard. Their performance has been credited with maintaining mission stability and boosting the efficiency of operations at the AUSSOM headquarters, earning commendations from both the mission leadership and international peacekeeping stakeholders.
IGP Egbetokun, in his response, expressed pride in the officers, describing them as shining examples of the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to global peace and cooperation. He encouraged them to maintain their high standard of discipline and professionalism, noting that their achievements reinforce Nigeria’s standing in international peacekeeping efforts.
The IGP further reaffirmed the Force’s support for global peace missions and pledged continued contribution to international security and humanitarian efforts.
