IGP Decorates 12 AIGs, 16 CPs With New Ranks, Urges Innovation in Policing

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Egbetokun Olukayode Adeolu, Ph.D., NPM, on Monday, July 28, 2025, decorated newly promoted senior police officers with their new ranks at the Goodluck Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja. The event was held amidst cheers and warm celebrations from families, friends, and colleagues of the promoted officers.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi. According to the statement, the officers decorated included 12 Commissioners of Police (CPs) elevated to the rank of Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs), and 16 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) promoted to the substantive rank of Commissioner of Police (CP).

The promotion follows the recent approval granted by the Police Service Commission, based on recommendations by the Inspector-General of Police. It also forms part of the ongoing welfare reforms implemented under the current police leadership, which has reportedly recorded the highest number of promotions within the shortest time frame in the history of the Force.

Among the newly promoted AIGs are Emmanuel Adegbola Aina, Enyinnaya Adiogu fsi, Ronke Nurat Okunade fsi, Johnson Oluwole Adenola, Hassan Audu Yabanet, Chinedu Oko, Aminu Baba Raji, Omolara Oloruntola, Akoh Benedict Gabriel, Tijani Ahmadu Abdullahi (rtd), Mohammed Usman, and Bretet Emmanuel.

Those elevated from Deputy Commissioners to Commissioners of Police include Sheik Mohammed Danko, Abiola Reuben Olutunde, Charles Dike, Victor Erivwode, Nnanna Oji Ama, Michael Falade, Yakubu Dankaro, Gabriel Elaigwu, Emefile Tony Osifo fsi, Umar Ahmed Chuso, Aina Adesola, Uduak Uta, Sylvester Edogbanya fsi, Musa Muhammed Sani, Omoikhudu Philip, and Innocent Anagbado.

The ceremony was graced by several dignitaries, including the Deputy Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, Senator Oyewunmi Olalere; Member of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Obi Aguoda; Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Shuaib Belgore; and Executive Secretary, Police Trust Fund, Femi Mohammed Sheidu. Also in attendance were members of the Force Management Team, serving and retired senior police officers, and families of the promoted officers.

In his address, the IGP congratulated the newly decorated officers and charged them to adopt innovative policing strategies, deepen public trust, and strengthen community partnerships. He emphasized the importance of professionalism, accountability, and respect for human rights in the discharge of their duties.

“The responsibilities that come with your new ranks are enormous. I urge you to rise to the occasion, uphold the integrity of the Nigeria Police Force, and serve with honour and dedication,” the IGP stated.

The Inspector-General also reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare and career progression of officers and men as a means of boosting morale and enhancing service delivery across the country.
