“I gave my NYSC allowee to my husband while I took loans to survive” – Woman

A Nigerian woman has shared an emotional account of her collapsed marriage, shedding light on the financial sacrifices made in an attempt to make her relationship work.
The woman identified on TikTok as @missijay revealed in a heartfelt video how her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year was marked by deep financial strain and emotional turmoil.
According to Missijay, she used to surrender her entire monthly NYSC allowance of ₦79,800 to her husband, leaving herself penniless and forced to borrow money from loan apps to afford transportation to her Place of Primary Assignment (PPA).
“My life is so private. Nobody knows that during my NYSC days, I used to earn ₦79,800 monthly but I’d give all the money to my husband then take loan from online apps just to be able to pay transport to my PPA. Monkey dey work, Baboon dey chop was my story,” she recounted.
She described how the pressure to keep her husband happy left her feeling exploited and trapped in a one-sided relationship. Reflecting on the experience, she expressed deep regret for her extreme sacrifices.
“Walking out of that marriage gave me one of the best things ever – financial independence and control. I am happy, blessed, and proud. Ahhhhhh. It was something I was subjected to ooo, I didn’t have a choice,” she added.
Her story has stirred conversation across social media, with many praising her courage to speak out and reclaim her financial freedom.
