Segun Sowunmi, former spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar’s 2023 presidential campaign, has declared President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to be significantly smarter than his key political rivals, including Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi. Sowunmi made these remarks during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, June 9, 2025.

Addressing speculation about his recent meeting with President Tinubu, Sowunmi clarified that the visit did not signify disloyalty to Atiku or the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Emphasizing his political independence, he stated, “As an adult, I am free to make my own decisions. I am not tied to anyone, nor am I anti-Tinubu. I own my voice, my words, and my arguments.”

The former Ogun State governorship aspirant expressed admiration for Tinubu’s dynamic leadership style, highlighting the president’s ability to tailor his approach to different situations as a distinguishing trait.

“Tinubu stands out because he doesn’t use a one-size-fits-all approach. By far, he is smarter than them—smarter than Peter Obi, smarter than them all,” Sowunmi asserted. When directly asked if Tinubu surpasses Atiku in intelligence, he reiterated, “He’s smarter than them.”

His comments have sparked discussions about political alignments and Tinubu’s influence in Nigerian politics.
