Grimsby Town pulled off one of the biggest upsets in recent football history by defeating Manchester United in the Carabao Cup second round on August 27, 2025.

The League Two side took a surprising 2-0 lead with goals from Charles Vernam in the 22nd minute and Tyrell Warren in the 30th. Manchester United fought back with late strikes from Bryan Mbeumo (75′) and Harry Maguire (89′) to level the score at 2-2.
