Gov’s Aide Nwanchor Decries Low Voter Registration in Ebonyi

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released recent online pre-registration statistics, placing Ebonyi State among the lowest-performing states in the country.
The revelation has sparked concern among political stakeholders and citizens alike, as many question the implications for the state’s future political relevance.
In a public statement, the Special Assistant to Ebonyi State Governor on Community Engagement, Nwanchor Paulinus Maduabuchi expressed deep disappointment over the figures, describing the trend as “not encouraging” for a state that prides itself on vibrant leadership and visible progress in infrastructure and human capital development.
“Imagine such an important national program receiving this level of laxity,” he remarked, “while those who should champion the mobilization efforts are busy criticizing the very tools that benefit us all.”
He emphasized that effective participation in the democratic process—beginning with voter registration—is critical for Ebonyi’s push for greater political representation, including the creation of new states, local government areas, wards, and polling units.
“Must everything be sponsored by government?” he asked, challenging community leaders and civil society to step up and take ownership of the process.
He noted that the low numbers have further strengthened his resolve to continue his ongoing stakeholders engagement tour across all 155 autonomous communities in Ebonyi State.
