Governor Nwifuru Reviews Years of Shame, Donates N20 Million

The Executive Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has demonstrated an uncommon commitment to literary development and youth inspiration by publicly reviewing the new book Years of Shame and announcing a fresh donation of N20 million to support the author.
The event took place at the Ebonyi Government House Chapel, where Governor Nwifuru, to the surprise of many, delivered a detailed and thoughtful appraisal of the 104,000-word work. The author revealed that the governor had received an advance copy only two weeks prior—a fact that made the depth of his engagement even more remarkable given his demanding schedule.
While discussing the book, Governor Nwifuru shared a poignant lesson, saying, “If you are wealthy, make sure your wealth does not make it difficult for your father to talk to you, to advise you.” He cited the example of the character Patrice, whose riches and influence alienated him from his father and contributed to his downfall.
The governor further disclosed that he had read the book to his children, who thoroughly enjoyed it—a gesture he encouraged other parents to emulate. “If a governor can make out time to read for his children, what stops you from reading and bonding with them?” he challenged the audience.
In addition to the N7 million he had previously donated during the book launch, Governor Nwifuru announced a further N20 million contribution in support of the publication and the author’s ongoing work.
Expressing heartfelt appreciation, the author described the governor’s support as a profound encouragement to writers and creatives across Nigeria. “This is proof of what is possible when we are consistent, steadfast and committed to our craft,” he said, adding that the gesture would inspire many to believe their work can make an impact.
The event was attended by members of the state executive, religious leaders, and literary enthusiasts, who commended the governor’s commitment to promoting education and cultural development.
