Gospel Singer Timileyin Ajayi Sentenced to Death by Hanging for Murder of NYSC Member Salome Adaidu

The High Court in Lafia, Nasarawa State, has sentenced gospel artist Oluwatimileyin “Timileyin” Ajayi to death by hanging for the gruesome killing and dismemberment of 24-year-old NYSC member Salome Adaidu.
Delivering the judgment on Thursday, Justice Simon Aboki found Ajayi guilty of culpable homicide, in violation of Section 221 of the Northern Nigeria Penal Code.
The incident occurred on January 12, 2025, at Ajayi’s residence in Papalana, New Karshi, where he was accused of murdering Salome and attempting to dispose of her dismembered body. The case sent shockwaves across the country, especially due to Ajayi’s image as a gospel musician.
According to Pulse Nigeria, during police interrogation, Ajayi reportedly confessed to the crime, saying, “She was my girlfriend. She was always cheating on me.” In a disturbing statement, he added, “I have no regrets.”
Despite the nature of the evidence—including the recovery of Salome’s remains in his possession—Ajayi maintained his innocence throughout the trial, pleading not guilty. The courtroom proceedings were tense and emotional, with Ajayi frequently seen clutching a Bible and praying, while Salome’s family looked on in anguish.
The tragic case was first reported in January 2025 and has since drawn national outrage and renewed concerns about the safety of young women, particularly NYSC members serving far from home.
With Thursday’s ruling, the court has brought closure to one of the most chilling murder cases in recent memory—handing down justice for a young life cut short and sending a strong message about the consequences of such heinous acts.
